Society is captivated by the TV, chaos and controversy has just enough "sound and fury" to keep the mindless masses and natives restless, obedient and subliminally blind. Maybe they are all just sitting down on the couch too much watching the "blinking lights" and mesmerized by larger and larger screens of static.
